Frequently Asked Questions
- FAQ #1: I have several checks written to CVSA from players on my team. Who
can I mail those to or where can they be dropped off at?
Answer: The CVSA's mailing address is listed on the bottom of and in the
sidebar of every page of the CVSA website. All checks should be sent there.
The CVSA's mailing address is:
CVSA
P. O. Box 18176
Richmond, VA 23226
- FAQ #2: I just tried to register at the Richmond
Kickers office, but I was informed by them that I
was in "deadbeat" status and cannot be put on any roster.
What does that mean?
Answer: This means that your name appears on a
roster of a former CVSA team that has been declared
"deadbeat". A team is declared "deadbeat" when they
have a past due balance from a previous season. A full
listing of "deadbeat" teams, their rosters, the total
amount due, and each player's amount due is listed on
the
Treasurer's Page of the CVSA Website.
- FAQ #3: I've always paid all of my CVSA dues. I'm not a
deadbeat. This isn't fair!
Answer: The CVSA Board, acting on the authority granted under
Article XII.A.1 of the CVSA Constitution has ruled
that each player participating on teams that dissolved while owing the
CVSA money is assessed a per capita share of that team's balance, unless
they could produce a receipt (canceled check, etc.) proving payment. This
is only an attempt to collect past due monies to the CVSA, not to punish
anyone.
Remember, the CVSA Board deals with the team captains, and the team
captains are expected to deal with individual players. The CVSA Board
cannot deal with 1000 different players each season on an individual basis.
Only after a team captain(s) has defaulted on his responsibilities under
Article I.G.8 of the CVSA Bylaws does the CVSA Board handle the
matter, invoking Article XII.A.1 of the CVSA Constitution.
If you feel that you have been wronged, it is suggested that you confront your
former team captain and ask him for refund.
- FAQ #4: Dude, I paid in cash!
Answer: For the last four years, the CVSA has posted an
"Operational Guide" to give all players & teams
direction as to how the season will be conducted. While
certain specifics may have changed from season-to-season,
one passage has been constant:
PLEASE REMEMBER IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT
PLAYERS PAY BY CHECK, AND MAKE THEIR CHECKS OUT
TO "C.V.S.A.". THE CVSA IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR
LOST, MISPLACED, OR STOLEN FUNDS PAID IN CASH TO
TEAM CAPTAINS, OR CHECKS WRITTEN TO ANY PARTY
OTHER THAN THE CENTRAL VIRGINIA SOCCER
ASSOCIATION.
THE CVSA REGISTRAR WILL NOT ACCEPT MONEY. ALL
PAYMENTS MUST BE MAILED TO THE CVSA POST OFFICE
BOX.
- FAQ #5: My team has a scheduling conflict coming up and we need to change the time
of our game. What do we need to do?
Answer: The first step is to contact your opposing team captain, and make
sure that he is OK with the move. If he is, then you will need to get the
approval of the captains of the two teams with whom you will swap time slots. After
approval from those captains is secured, have them e-mail CVSA Scheduling Coordinator
Mike Finnie. Once he has approval
from all team captains, then the switch will be made.
Remember, by contract our referee organization needs 72 hours notice to move or cancel
a game.
- FAQ #6: I got a red card last week, and the referee didn't give back my pass. How do I
get it back?
Answer: By contract the CVSA's referee organization, Old Dominion Soccer Referee Service,
is required to keep all player passes of red-carded players. After processing,
the pass is sent to the CVSA Vice President, who is by definition in charge
of disciplinary matters. The CVSA Vice President is
Kent Vaughan.
- FAQ #7: The score of my game is reported incorrectly on the CVSA website. How do we correct
that?
Answer: After sending your request to the
CVSA Webmaster, have your opposing team captain e-mail the
CVSA Webmaster as well with the correct score.
A listing of all current team captains can be found in the CVSA Directory.
- FAQ #8: I need to remove a player from my roster. How do I go about doing so?
Answer: All roster removal requests must first be reviewed by the CVSA Registrar.
The CVSA Registrar is Brian Bartlett.
In general, if a player has played in a game, he cannot be removed from your roster for
that season. As well, all roster removal requests after the Roster Freeze Date (RFD) must
be approved by the CVSA Board. Each specific season's RFD will be listed on the
CVSA Calendar Page and the
seasonal Operational Guide.
- FAQ #9: What if I have a scheduling request?
Answer: Scheduling requests should be sent to CVSA Scheduling Coordinator
Mike Finnie. Requests should be submitted as early
as possible. While we try to meet every team's unique scheduling requests, we must also factor in
many other issues including field availability, opposing team's conflicting requests, facility mandates,
etc. Historically, we have made an extra effort to accommodate the requests of teams whose members
have volunteered their time to do their part in advancing the league (i.e. - assisting with field
maintenance work days, participating in CVSA Council events, meeting all clerical and financial
deadlines, etc.) We strive to provide the highest quality playing surfaces for all of our matches
while still meeting the scheduling demands and constraints involved with a league of our size.
